YAO Qingmei (b.1982, Zhejiang, China) currently lives and works in Wenzhou and Paris. She achieved DNSEP with honors from Villa Arson, Nice, France in 2013, and was awarded the winner of Prix spécial du jury at the 59th Salon de Montrouge in 2014 in France, the Prize Young Chinese Artist of the Yearin 2017 in China, the 68th Prix Jeune Création of Paris in 2018, Asian Cultural Council New York Fellowship in 2022, Individual Creative Assistance (AIC) Artist Projects support in 2022 in Paris.
Her video and installation works are collected by public and private foundations such as the Fondation d'Art Contemporain de la Ville de Paris, Director of Cultural Affairs of Marseille, Guangdong Museum of Art, Taikang Art Museum in Beijing, and Kadist Art Foundation in San Francisco. She has held solo exhibitions at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, West Bund Museum in Shanghai. And she has exhibited her work or participated in video screenings or performed live at Whitechapel Gallery in the UK, Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, Haus der Kunst in Munich, Shanghai Contemporary Art Biennal, BIENNALE JCE - Jeune Creation Europeenne, UCCA Beijing, Para Site in Hong Kong, among others.
YAO’s practice traverses the boundary between performance and its site, frequently enacting intervention in public space to perturb the parameters of its reality and surroundings. Her art is deep-rooted in a critical reflection into the formulation of political and social questions, exploring how symbolic gestures gain or lose power through forms of appropriation and displacement. Here, humor plays an important role in her work, using the poetics of comedy to expose the absurdity of a particular issue. Offering different methods of resistance, her theatrical performances and interventions find their form in an area overlapping burlesque traditions of satire and parody, which combine with framing devices influenced by theatre sets and costume, pedagogical lectures, the dialectic between image and text,choreography inspired by modern dance.
1982年出生于中国浙江省，现生活、工作于巴黎和温州。2013年毕业于阿尔松国立高等艺术学院，获得法国国家造型美术硕士学位；2014年获得法国第59届蒙鲁日沙龙（Salon de Montrouge) 评审团特奖；2017年获得上海保时捷首届中国青年艺术家年度评选大奖；2018年获得巴黎第68 届青年艺术创作奖（Jeune Création)，2022年她获得了及亚洲文化协会的纽约驻留奖助以及法国巴黎大区AIC个人艺术项目基金。
她的影像和装置作品被巴黎市当代艺术基金会、马赛市文化事务总局、广东美术馆，北京泰康美术馆和旧金山卡蒂斯特艺术基金会等公共和私人基金会收藏。她曾在巴黎东京宫、图卢兹白亭美术馆举办个展，在英国白教堂美术馆，巴黎欧洲摄影之家，慕尼黑艺术之家博物馆，上海当代艺术双年展，欧洲青年艺术双年展，北京尤伦斯当代艺术中心、香港Para Site艺术中心等机构展出作品，参与影像放映及实施现场表演。
姚清妹的实践打破了表演与其场地之间的界限，她以身体为媒介在公共空间中实施干预，以扰乱既定规则，探索象征性符号以及被符号哺育的身体如何在日常生活中获取或丧失权力。她的现场表演和与表演相关的多媒介实践通过挪用，错位和讽喻的手法提出了关于抵抗的多种不同形式，其架构揉杂了剧场布景，服装，装置，讲演教学，声音诗以及受现代舞启发的编舞。她的创作时常纠缠于某种对峙中的张力状态，即富有一种滑稽的诗意幽默又保有一种天真的暴徒情怀。她企图通过挖掘身体的自然松弛和个体的自发性来激发语言，肢体和思想观点的碰撞，触及权力框架和既定机制的痛点。
