Sidney Jézéquel is a French director and screenwriter, born in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, France. After studying philosophy, he briefly attended the IDHEC film school in 1951 before embarking on a career in cinema. He collaborated for many years with his uncle, Roger Leenhardt, on documentary films before producing his own portfolio of short films starting in 1958. His work addresses urban landscapes, social issues, and the everyday tensions of modern life — notable works include Paris et le désert français (1957) and Structures et façades (1966). In 1973 he directed the short La Capricieuse. His final film, Naissance d’une banlieue, mort d’un village (2000), investigates the transformation of a Paris suburb and a vanishing village. He headed Les Films Roger Leenhardt for decades, contributing to France’s independent short film tradition and documentary heritage.
