Feng Yan has been creating documentary since 1994. Her first feature-length film, Dreams of Changjiang (1997) ,won the Excellence Award at Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF), and was screened at Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Hong Kong International Film Festival, among others. Her 2007 documentary, Bing ai, won awards at Festival des 3 Continents, Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Filmer à Tout Prix in Belgium, and Hong Kong International Film Festival, among others. She is currently finalizing the film Women by the Yangtze River series.
Since 2009, she has been teaching documentary filmmaking in workshops and universities. She also translated multiple Japanese documentary books and film subtitles, including: Shinsuke Ogawa and Sadao Yamane's Harvesting Films (Shanghai People’s Press), Kazuo Hara's The Emperor’s Naked Army Marches On: Production Handbook (Full Shot Communication Foundation, Taiwan), Makoto Sato's The Horizon of Documentary Film (to be published).
Feng Yan has served as jury at China Documentary Exchange Week (2008), the 12th Chinese Independent Film Festival (CIFF) and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival (2015), and also the mentor at DOC+ Documentary Workshop of Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF,2015) . In addition, She curated retrospectives of Shinsuke Ogawa and Noriaki Tsuchimoto for Beijing Documentary Exchange Week.
纪录片导演，1994年开始纪录片创作。1997年完成第一部长片《长江之梦》，曾参展山形国际纪录片、香港国际电影节等，并获第一届台湾国际纪录片影展-国际影带竞赛首奖。2007年完成《秉爱》，在南特三大洲电影节、山形国际纪录片电影节、比利时Filmer à Tout Prix、香港国际电影节等多个电影节获奖。现后期制作《长江边的女人们》系列。
2009年开始在纪录片工作坊和大学讲授纪录片创作。此外也翻译多部日文纪录片著作和电影字幕。已完成的书籍翻译有：小川绅介《收割电影》（上海人民出版社），原一男《前进！神军制作手册》（台湾全景传播基金会）、佐藤真《纪录电影的地平线——为了批判地接受这个世界》（待出版）等。
曾任2008年中国纪录片交流周、第十二届中国独立影像展CIFF、2015年山形国际纪录片电影节评委；2015年台湾国际纪录片影展DOC+紀錄片工作坊导师。于2008、2009北京纪录片交流周策划“小川绅介回顾展”和“土本典昭回顾展”。
