Ali Mehdi is a Pakistani Quetta-born director. He started his career as a stop motion animator in a local production house, before working as first AD in a Pakistani feature film and holding different positions in short films and short documentaries. Ali worked as a Producer/Cinematographer at Soch Videos, a digital media platform producing short reports, documentaries, and explainers from Pakistan. His first short film 'Father’s Grave' (2018) received multiple awards. Ali has developed his feature debut within the framework of the 2021 IFBA Busan Asian Film School before receiving a six-month fellowship by Qalambaaz Screenwriting Lab. His short documentary 'In Zainab’s Heaven', winner of the Special Jury Mention of the International Short Films Competition at the 38th Fribourg International Film Festival 2024, is the recipient of the Hot Docs CrossCurrents International Doc Fund and the Sharjah Art Foundation's Short Film Production Grant 2022.
