Mia Halme is an award-winning director who tends to look behind the scenes of private life as well as hierarchies of society. Themes of her films are often related to the dignity of life. She is known e.g. for the documentary miniseries First Five (2023) for HBO and her film Forever Yours (2011), which won the Best Documentary Award, respected Finnish Jussi prize and the Best Direction Award at the Visions du Réel Festival. Her film Every Other Couple (2016) premiered at DOK Leipzig, Germany and at Hot Docs in Canada. People We Come Across (2021) also premiered at Hot Docs and was awarded in Pärnu, Estonia as the Best Science Documentary. Halme graduated as a director from the University of Art and Design Helsinki and has worked there later in the Department of Documentary as a lecturer and as an Executive in Residence.
