Simone Hooymans is an animator, artist, and filmmaker who primarily works with drawing and animation. Originally from the Netherlands, she is now based in Ålvik, Norway. She studied at the art academies in Arnhem and Breda and has received several awards for her distinctive animated films. Her hand-drawn animations are known for their vivid colors and captivating movements that draw viewers into otherworldly universes. Hooymans creates a mysterious world with a dark, extraterrestrial undertone, often exploring the relationship between humans and nature.
In 2020, she gained attention with her large-scale video installation Talking Plants at the opening exhibition of Oslo's new Deichman Library. Her work often merges innovative music with visual art, and she has collaborated with various Norwegian musicians. She has also participated in numerous international group exhibitions and film festivals.
Her experimental film "Earthfall" (2019) explores transformative forces in times of crisis, offering a symbolic take on global issues like environmental disasters and political unrest, intertwined with a personal emotional journey. Ras premiered at Animafest Zagreb and Bergen International Film Festival and was selected for the Norwegian Autumn Exhibition in 2019.
