Hanwen Zhang is an artist and filmmaker based in Changchun and Shanghai. He received an MFA from the School of Visual Arts and is the recipient of the SAH Award for Film and Video. Derived from direct observation, his work examines the individuals‘ existence status in contemporary society as well as its relationship with space, image, memory, history of technology, and ideology.
Zhang’s work has been exhibited or screened at Power Station of Art (Shanghai), OCAT Institute (Beijing), SVA Theater (New York), Aotu Space (Beijing), CACHE Space (Beijing), BBC LongShots(online), and other places or film festivals. He has participated in the Fosun Foundation Art Residency (Shanghai), BRIClab Video Art Residency (New York), UnionDocs Summer Documentary Lab(New York), and VSC Artist-in-Residency (Vermont).
