Displaced in Time traces the story of an Iranian family scattered across decades and continents, where home becomes a distant yet tangible memory in fragments. Hi8 footage of a childhood in Japan, Nowruz rituals shared across screens, and dreams of rooms that no longer exist form an intimate mosaic of diasporic life. At the heart of the film is the voice of the filmmaker’s mother, whose singing—outlawed in Iran—emerges as an act of resistance. It threads through the film like an echo, binding past to present, the visible to the unseen.
This essay film ultimately reflects on how displacement shapes not only where we live, but also how we inhabit time itself—where we can only truly meet within the fragile borders of an image.
