Set in the forests of the Patagonian Andes, the film blends ethnographic documentary and magical realism to explore the mystery of a burned native forest, as conflicting versions of the fire's origin circulate, claiming both human and natural causes. We see a lone man walking and riding through the devastated landscape - was he involved in the fire, or is it just a rural myth?
The mysterious plot of the fire is the red thread that runs through the film, and it is integrated into a broader exploration that highlights the complex relationships between an indigenous Mapuche community that has reclaimed its ancestral territory, the national park (where the community lives), and reforestation volunteers. Rather than highlighting the dichotomies between the different groups involved in the reforestation, the film embraces the multiplicity of experiences and stories within this wounded landscape. There are no main characters but relationships, interdependencies. If there were a main character, it would be this burned, damaged landscape itself, these black and green trees, appearing as a inhabited space, rich in presences and counter-stories.
