The stable, if miserable, lives of Felix, a young building superintendent, and his ailing grandfather, are upended by a cranky tenant who conspires to get him canned. But owing to his unlikely friendship with a chess-playing drunk who fearfully sees himself in young Felix, and a chance encounter with a tenant of the fairer sex, the young super learns that life has got to be about more than just getting by.
