Shengjia Zhang is a Teochew person from Shenzhen, China. He graduated from Central Saint Martins in MA Fine Art as a holder of Mona Hatoum Bursary, Deans Award and his work has been collected by CSM museum permanent collection. His recent research topics include British Chinoiserie porcelain, shards and artefacts found on Thames river foreshore, Birthday cake, his family's history of migration from China Teochew region to Thailand, Chinese street shrines, etc. His practice is driven by an exploration of specific minor social histories and globalization intertwined with everyday objects and concepts through collecting relevant marginal materials and study on them. He is also a mudlarker, picking up objects of archaeological value on the banks of the Thames and creating works based on the study of them.
