Olivier van Malderghem seeks to combine reflection on film and audiovisual narration. This search for a balance between theory and practice was first conducted as part of a doctorate in philosophy (ULB) and a master's degree in editing (INSAS). He has also been a professor at IHECS and the University of Montreal.
He has written several published articles, scripts (not all produced!), directed films (see samples on https://www.maelstromfilms.be). Today, he focuses exclusively on production and directing, and photography (see website https://maelstromfilms.be). His films have gathered too many prizes and distinctions to be mentioned here, and almost all of them have been selected in class A festivals.
