Pariya Bakhshi (they/she), born in 1997 in Hiroshima, is a filmmaker and artist who grew up in Iran. They studied Design in Tehran and, since 2019, Film at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, moving between fiction, experimental, and documentary forms. Their work revolves around memory, freedom, and exile—central themes examined in the essay film Displaced in Time (2025). In their fiction films, they explore bodily expression within surreal, magical-realist worlds beyond language, often in collaboration with dancers. This approach has led to works such as Katzenbellen (with Nils Ramme, 2025), Velodrome (with Blanca Barbat, 2023), and Anamorphosis (with Sina Aghazadeh, 2018), which become political by questioning and breaking societal norms and the boundaries of the filmic medium.
