An Ode to Tree-Writing / 树木写作颂 is a ‘video poem’ by Jessye Wdowin-McGregor, made in collaboration with esteemed poet, novelist, scholar, editor and translator, Ouyang Yu / 欧阳昱. The work reflects on Ouyang’s long-held daily practice of writing poems on the trunks and leaves of trees at Bundoora Park, a large open parkland in a north-eastern suburb of Melbourne, Australia, that Ouyang has returned to again and again as a site of inspiration for nearly thirty years.
This work was made during a collaborative artist residency project at Correspondences (Melbourne, Australia) in 2023, which was curated by Emma Thomson. The poems spoken and written in the video are by 欧阳昱 Ouyang Yu, except two ancient Chinese poems by the master poets 王之涣 Wang Zhihuan and 李白 Li Bai. Wang Zhihuan's poem, 《登鹳雀楼》/'White Sun', appears written on a tree. Ouyang speaks Li Bai's poem, 《静夜思》/’Thoughts on a Still Night'. Note: The titles of the above poems were translated by Ouyang Yu.
《树木写作颂》是由Jessye Wdowin-McGregor创作的“视频诗”，与著名诗人、小说家、学者、编辑和翻译家欧阳昱（Ouyang Yu）合作完成。该作品反思了欧阳昱长期以来在澳大利亚墨尔本东北郊的布杜拉公园（Bundoora Park）树干和树叶上写诗的日常实践。布杜拉公园是一个大型开放的公园，是欧阳昱近三十年来不断回访的灵感来源地。
该作品是在2023年“Correspondences”（墨尔本，澳大利亚）的合作艺术家驻地项目期间创作的，该项目由Emma Thomson策展。视频中所朗读和书写的诗歌均来自欧阳昱，除了两首古代中国诗歌——分别是王之涣的《登鹳雀楼》和李白的《静夜思》。王之涣的诗《登鹳雀楼》/“White Sun”出现在树上，欧阳昱朗读李白的诗《静夜思》/“Thoughts on a Still Night”。注：上述诗歌的标题由欧阳昱翻译。
