The Beijing International Short Film Festival (BISFF) is pleased to announce the distinguished jury for its 2025 edition. The jurors, comprising filmmakers, scholars, and producers, will oversee three competition sections: International, Sinophone, and NOVA. Their diverse visions reflect the festival’s commitment to dialogue across cultures and cinematic forms.
北京国际短片联展(BISFF)正式公布2025年度评审阵容。「国际」「华语」与「NOVA」三大竞赛单元将由来自不同文化背景的导演、学者与制片人担任评审。他们的视角将为本届评选注入更多元的维度,并推动影展在影像形式与文化经验之间的深入对话。

Sergei Loznitsa 谢尔盖·洛兹尼察
Sergei Loznitsa was born on September 5th, 1964. He grew up in Kyiv (Ukraine), and, in 1987, graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic with a degree in Applied Mathematics. From 1987 to 1991, Sergei worked as a scientist at the Kyiv Institute of Cybernetics, specialising in artificial intelligence research. In 1997, Loznitsa graduated from the Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow.
Sergei Loznitsa has been making films since 1996, and by now he has directed 28 award-winning documentaries and 4 fiction films. In 2000, Loznitsa left Russia and moved to Europe. In 2013, he founded a production company, ATOMS & VOID. Sergei is working both in documentary and fiction genres and is internationally recognised as one of the most prolific and influential auteurs of his generation. Loznitsa's films are regularly featured at major international festivals, such as Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Rotterdam, IDFA, and Visions du Réel.

Tang Hongfeng 唐宏峰
Tang Hongfeng is a research professor and vice Dean of the School of Arts, Peking University. Her research interests focus on art theory, image-media theory, and Chinese visual culture at the turn of the 20th century. She is the author of Transparency: Chinese Visual Modernity (1872–1911) and two other books. In 2022, she curated the exhibition Photographic Moments: The Emergence of Photographic Visuality in China at Xie Zilong Photography Museum.
唐宏峰,北京大学艺术学院副院长、研究员、博士生导师,国家社科基金艺术学重大项目首席专家,入选教育部青年长江学者奖励计划。主要研究领域为艺术理论、图像—媒介理论与近代中国视觉文化研究。出版《透明:中国视觉现代性(1872–1911)》等多部著作。2022年,策划谢子龙影像艺术馆年度馆藏研究展“影像时刻:早期中国摄影视觉的发生”。

Giuseppe Boccassini 朱塞佩·博卡西尼
Giuseppe Boccassini is a filmmaker based between Berlin and Italy. After graduating in Film Theory at DAMS, University of Bologna, and completing a diploma in Film Directing at NUCT Cinecittà in Rome, he developed a research-based practice focused on found footage, archival materials, and experimental cinema.
His recent works explore the historical and formal dimensions of film noir and melodrama — noir in Ragtag (2022) and melodrama in Desire (2025). Since 2017, he has been the director of FRACTO – Experimental Film Encounter, a Berlin-based festival dedicated to experimental cinema. His research extends to industrial cinema, explored in Blast Furnace (2024), where archival imagery emerges as an immediate presence — closer to living nature than to a technological device. He is currently developing Phantom Ride, a film-based project combining early Antarctic expedition footage with the aesthetics of early cinema.
His films have screened at Venice International Film Festival, FID Marseille, Ji.hlava IDFF, Jerusalem IFF, Torino Film Festival, IndieLisboa, Image Forum Tokyo, and the Museum of the Moving Image, New York, where Ragtag was presented in conversation with film theorist Tom Gunning. His work is distributed by Light Cone (Paris) and the Film-Makers’ Cooperative (New York).

Chris Berry 裴开瑞
Chris Berry is Professor of Film Studies at King’s College London. In the 1980s, he worked for China Film Export and Import Corporation in Beijing. His academic research is grounded in work on audio-visual media of the Sinosphere.
Books written and/or edited include China on Screen: Cinema and the National; Postsocialist Cinema in Post-Mao China: The Cultural Revolution after the Cultural Revolution; Chinese Independent Cinema: Past, Present, and a Questionable Future; Taiwanese-Language Cinema: Rediscovered and Reconsidered; Film and the Chinese Medical Humanities; Chinese Film Festivals: Sites of Translation; Routledge Handbook of East Asian Popular Culture; Public Space, Media Space; The New Chinese Documentary Film Movement: For the Public Record; and Electronic Elsewheres: Media, Technology, and Social Space. He has served on juries for numerous film festivals, including the Bangkok Film Festival, Singapore International Film Festival, Hawai’i International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, and the Golden Horse Awards (Taipei).

Shen Ko-Shang 沈可尚
Shen Ko-Shang is a film and documentary director, and the former director of the Taipei Film Festival. His important works include the documentaries Baseball Boys, A Rolling Stone, Love Talk, and Master and Guest; and short feature films such as Layover, Juliet/Two Juliets, 10+10/Bus Odyssey, and Mia. He has recently completed the feature film Deep Quiet Room and the documentary feature Seven Ages of A Man.
His works have been selected for many international film festivals and competitions, including the Cannes Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, Visions du Réel, and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival. He has received numerous major awards, including the First Prize at the Taiwan International Documentary Film Festival, the Taipei Film Awards Grand Prize, the Gold Medal at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards, the Silver Award at the Shanghai TV Festival, multiple Golden Bell Awards, the Golden Horse Awards, and the First Prize at the Pingyao International Film Festival.

Zhao Jia 赵佳
Zhao Jia is a Chinese-Dutch film producer based in Amsterdam. She founded MUYI FILM in 2012 and co-founded SILK ROAD FILM SALON with Afghan-Dutch director Aboozar Amini to tell stories from regions along the ancient Silk Road. She continues to executive-produce international projects in collaboration with Asian and Chinese entities, contributing to co-financing efforts and enhancing both authenticity and production value.
Her latest production, Kabul, Between Prayers (2025), has been selected for the Venice International Film Festival. Jia also produced Flower Chasers (Sheffield DocFest, 2023), A Marble Travelogue (IDFA, 2021), and co-produced I’m So Sorry (Cannes, 2021). As executive producer, she supported An Asian Ghost Story (CPH:DOX, 2023, New:Vision Award). From 2015 to 2019, five of her films were selected for the IDFA Competition, including Kabul, City in the Wind, which opened IDFA 2018 and won the First Appearance Jury Award. In 2025, Jia became a member of the Academy, in recognition of her contribution to authentic documentary storytelling through international collaborations.

Wang Jing 王婧
Wang Jing is a Beijing-based independent film producer. Her credits include Wen Shipei's LAND OF BROKEN HEARTS (Busan 2024) and ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT? (Cannes 2021, San Sebastián 2021, Toronto 2021, Busan 2021); Han Shuai's GREEN NIGHT (Berlinale 2023, Busan 2023, Tokyo 2023); Johnny Ma's TO LIVE TO SING (Cannes 2019, Winner of Best Picture and Best Actress at Shanghai International Film Festival's Asian New Talent Awards) and OLD STONE (Berlinale 2016, Winner of Best Canadian First Feature Film at Toronto International Film Festival) and Pei-Ju Hsieh's HEAVY CRAVING (Busan 2019, FIPRESCI Prize at Golden Horse Awards).
In June 2025, Jing was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She received her M.F.A. in Creative Producing from Columbia University.

Qiu Sheng 仇晟
Qiu Sheng was born in Hangzhou, China. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering before becoming a filmmaker. His feature debut Suburban Birds (2018) has been selected in Locarno Film Festival, and more than 20 other international film festivals, such as São Paulo International Film Festival, BFI, CPH:PIX and New Directors/New Films Festival. His short film Double Helix (2021) won Best Short Film in Shanghai International Film Festival, Best International Short Film in Ghent Film Festival. His new feature MY FATHER'S SON has won Best Artistic Achievement award in Shanghai International Film Festival in 2025.
仇晟导演出生于中国杭州,毕业于清华大学生物医学工程系,后转入电影领域。首部长片《郊区的鸟》曾获得FIRST青年电影节最佳影片并入围洛迦诺国际电影节,纽约新导演/新电影,BFI伦敦国际电影节、圣保罗国际电影节等等。短片《生命之歌》曾获上海国际电影节最佳短片奖及根特电影节最佳国际短片奖。最新长片《比如父子》获得上海国际电影节金爵奖艺术贡献奖。

Sam Manacsa 萨姆·马纳克萨
Sam Manacsa has worked in production design for award-winning films including Carlo Francisco Manatad’s Whether the Weather Is Fine (Locarno, 2021) and Siyou Tan’s Amoeba (TIFF, 2025). Her short film Cross My Heart and Hope to Die (2023) had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti section, while If People Such as We Cease to Exist (2016) was selected for the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in the International Competition. She is an alumna of the SEAFIC Seed Lab (2022) and the TIFF Director’s Lab (2025).
Manacsa currently works as a production designer for various commercials and films.
