BISFF 2025 will take place from November 8 to 16, 2025, showcasing 331 short and medium-length films across 12 sections.
Competition Sections
The International Competition features 75 films from over 35 countries, reflecting our belief that images are not simply vehicles of representation but spaces of cohabitation, where perception, memory, and relation unfold. These works inhabit the complexities of lived experience, tracing entanglements between bodies, environments, and temporalities. They invite us to approach the image as a shared terrain of attention, vulnerability, and care.
The Sinophone Competition, formerly known as the “Chinese-language Competition," presents 26 films that traverse languages, regions and aesthetic forms. The new framing embodies our curatorial position, which understands Sinophone filmmaking as a fluid and contested ecology shaped by transborder flows, multilingual entanglements, and divergent histories of image-making.
The NOVA Competition, with 35 films, is a curatorial vessel holding and enacting multidimensional dialogues in a continuous, cinematic state of becoming. It seeks to extend the notion of “coming-of-age” toward broader temporal and narrative horizons, as a permanent process of negotiation between generation and worlds, between solitude and collectivity, between desire, doubt and resilience.
Non-Competition Sections
Astro: A retrospective on Italian experimental filmmaker Giuseppe Boccassini, this program charts eleven films that traverse the liminal zones between film history, memory, and perception through his signature practice of reassembling found footage and archival images.
Aurora: Bringing together 27 shorts through a Sinophone-focused lens, this section interrogates how media, memory, and mobility converge to forge new forms of identity and expression, proposing a re-enchantment of the image itself.
Echo: Centered on archival filmmaking, this section’s 27 works reveal the coexisting layers of the past that shape the present, showing how private and public histories become intertwined through acts of cinematic remembrance.
Siphon: This section highlights 47 works of experimental moving image, diving into how images generate meaning, disrupt visual habits, and intervene in established ways of seeing and sensing.
Neutron: Navigating the suspended time between short and feature film, this program presents seven mid-length films defined by forms that resist conventional scale.
Phase: A space for tracing the plurality of female experiences, this section moves through shifting geographies, temporalities, and forms of expression across 29 films.
Special Programs
Future Ethics: An environmental program of 23 films that rethinks the temporal, ethical, and planetary conditions of coexistence—foregrounding the voices of land, species, and matter to imagine a future rooted in listening, reciprocity, and ecological memory.
Prisma: Through 10 shorts, this program foregrounds how diasporic subjectivities refract across languages and images, conjuring an iterative sense of belonging that emerges not from origin, but from resonance, reassemblage, and the ongoing work of translating reality.
War-Image-War Chapter I,II,III: Spanning 15 works across three chapters, this program interrogates the recursive entanglement of war and image—how war produces images, and images, in turn, produce war. From battlefield to domestic screen, these films expose the image as not merely witness, but agent:, legitimizing, rehearsing, and haunting violence.

竞赛单元
国际竞赛汇集来自超过35个国家/地区的75部影片。我们相信影像不仅是再现的媒介，更是感知、记忆与关系得以展开的一处共在空间。这些作品植根于复杂的生活经验，探索身体、环境与时间的交织，邀请我们将影像视为一个关于照护、脆弱与关怀的共享场域。
华语竞赛呈现26部跨越地域与语言、呈现多样化生产语境与美学实践的作品。从“Chinese Competition”更名为“Sinophone Competition”，新的命名回应着我们对当下华语影像的观察：一种充满流动与越界的创作生态，它由跨域文化、多语言经验与差异化的影像历史共同塑造。
新星竞赛以35部作品承载并展开多维对话，将策展作为一种容器，使之持续关注影像生成中的状态。我们寻求开拓“成长/启蒙”这一概念的时间与叙事边界，并将其视为代际与世界、个人与集体、欲望、疑虑与抗逆性之间永恒的协商过程。
非竞赛单元
星辰 聚焦影人：意大利实验电影人朱塞佩·博卡西尼在亚洲的首个作品回顾展，涵盖其自 2013 年迄今的主要创作路径。博卡西尼的影像创作长年游走于电影史的废墟与感知的临界点之间，他以现成影像与档案材料为媒介，探索记忆、身体与观看之间持续震荡的张力。
曙光 华语特别展映：通过27部短片审视媒介、记忆与流动性的交汇，它们不仅催生出新的身份与表达形式，更呼吁对影像本体的复魅。
回响 档案电影地层：以档案影像创作为核心，展映的27部作品揭示了形塑当下的历史层积，展现私人与公共历史如何通过影像的记忆相互编织。
虹吸 实验电影容器：聚焦47部实验影像作品，深入探讨影像如何生成意义、打破视觉惯性，干预固有的观看与感知方式。
中子 中片特展：游走在短片与长片的悬置时域之间，本单元呈现7部拒绝被时长限制的中片。
月相 聚焦女性影像：在29部影片中穿越多变的地形、时序与表达形式，追踪女性经验的复杂轨迹。
特别策划
未来伦理学：由BISFF2025邀请绿色和平Greenpeace联合推出、囊括23部影片的环境影像主题展映。重新思考关于共生议题的时间尺度、伦理价值及地球环境——突显土地、物种与物质的声音，构想一个根植于倾听、互惠与生态记忆的未来。
战争图像/图像战争 第1-3章：三个章节共包含15部作品，审视战争与图像之间的递归纠缠——战争不断生产图像，图像亦在生产战争，二者交织成一个自我延续的机制，使“观看”本身成为权力运作的前线。从战场到家用屏幕，这些影片表明图像不仅是见证者，更是行动者：它们记录、合法化、预演暴力，并使之周而复始。
棱镜：通过10部短片，聚焦在文化流动与语境转译中形成的影像实践：它们以个人经验为入口，穿越语言、地理与情感的界面，在影像之中重新探询自我与世界的关系，从中呈现出某种被折射的Chineseness——非作为认同的中心，而是一种游移、生成、不断变形的感知余韵。
